There987 Archivesplenty of birds out there with brightly colored plumage. Then there are birds who look like they come straight out of an Edgar Allen Poe nightmare.

Twitter user@spreadterror lived up to his name and captured this particular harbinger of doom as it landed on his girlfriend (@ilovenicegrass).

As you can see, this specimen is no tropical beauty. It is ominously perched on her shoulders, like a proper omen of death ought to do.

In case you thought this was a Photoshop, there's a full video of the experience. A bright macaw can be seen in the background, but obviously it is not interested in matters of doom and gloom like our big, dark friend here.

But fret not -- turns out this gloomy looking bird is a palm cockatoo and he's just saying hello!

See? Even ominous beacons of misfortune are just friendly boys looking for companionship.
