As Hurricane Irma tore through Florida over the weekend, it isolated the many, many who stayed behind to brave out the storm. Sunday morning in Miami’s little Haiti neighborhood, one woman found herself having to deliver her baby alone, with only the help of paramedics who guided her through the process over the phone.

According to the Miami Herald, assistant fire chief Eloy Garcia, followed protocol. Due to the hurricane’s strength, authorities nor paramedics could physically reach the woman but luckily, phone lines were still active.
Garcia said, "She delivered the placenta, also. We made contact with the assistant medical director here. Talked things through."

Both the city of Miami and Miami-Dade's police Twitter accounts, tweeted updates on the birth of a healthy baby girl, including a picture of the newborn who survived the inclement weather.

Hurricane Irma not only hung over her birth, it also inspired the baby's name.
