In perhaps one of the most 2018 stories imaginable,I Am a Plaything Malala Yousafzai and Elon Musk were brought together on Twitter thanks to the satirical news outlet The Onion.
It all started with this story from Clickhole, a spinoff of The Onion, titled, "More Bad Press For Elon: The Car Elon Musk Launched Into Orbit Has Fallen Back Down To Earth And Crushed Malala Yousafzai."

Of course, Musk had already tweeted the story once and, as a compulsive (sometimes bad) tweeter, you can damn well bet he tweeted back at Malala.

One fun added wrinkle: One of Malala's brothers chimed in to do what brothers do and troll his sister, which triggered a defense from a Malala fan who didn't know the troller was Malala's brother.
