In his second consecutive year hosting the Oscars (and year one was pretty eventful),Watch Sex 2: Fate (1995) Jimmy Kimmel started the night with quick quip about his track record.
"This year, when you hear your named called, don't get up right away," Kimmel began, referencing the La La Land/Moonlightgaffe of 2017.

He then segued into Harvey Weinstein's expulsion from the Academy – the only person to receive that treatment previously was a character actor who shared his private screeners.
Jokes aside, Kimmel said the Oscars were a "night for positivity," highlighting Time's Up, #MeToo, #NeverAgain, and the success of Black Panther.
"I remember the time when studio execs didn't believe that a woman or a minority could open a superhero movie," Kimmel said. "And I remember that time because it was March of last year."
Kimmel kept it mostly serious while describing some of the work to bring equality to Hollywood in the past several months, getting in a few well-timed jokes before talking about this year's nominees. He teased Timothée Chalamet for "missing Paw Patrolto be here tonight" and asked Christopher Plummer how Lin-Manuel Miranda compares to the real Alexander Hamilton (he's better!).
The monologue ended with Kimmel promising a brand new jet-ski to whichever winner gave the shortest speech during the show in the interest of time. Honestly, that might be cooler to win than an Oscar...
