Two weeks into the Trump presidency, sentimental eroticism Ivanka Trump is out at two major department stores.
Nordstrom was the first to drop the Ivanka Trump clothing line from its stores, Racked reported on Thursday. The chain cited the brand's performance in that decision, without mentioning Trump's political ties.
“We've said all along we make buying decisions based on performance,” a Nordstrom spokesperson told Racked. “We’ve got thousands of brands -- more than 2,000 offered on the site alone. Reviewing their merit and making edits is part of the regular rhythm of our business. Each year we cut about 10 percent and refresh our assortment with about the same amount. In this case, based on the brand’s performance we’ve decided not to buy it for this season.”
The next day, news reports confirmed that Neiman Marcus pulled the Ivanka Trump jewelry line from its website and some retail locations. The retailer also cited the brand's performance in that decision.
"Neiman Marcus has a very small Ivanka Trump precious jewelry business which is comprised 100 percent of consigned merchandise (merchandise owned by the vendor)," the department store said in a statement. "Based on productivity we continuously assess whether our brands are carried in stores, on our website, or both."
The department stores had been the target of the boycott campaign #GrabYourWallet, which tracks companies with ties to Donald Trump and discourages supporting them. The campaign started during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Nordstrom had been named one of the top 10 companies to boycott out of more than 60 companies on the list. Most companies on the list were called out for carrying Trump family products, advertising on Celebrity Apprentice, the TV show President Trump once hosted and in which he still has a producing stake, or endorsing Trump. The #GrabYourWallet campaign also boycotted Trump's own businesses.
Ivanka Trump's political and business interests were intertwined throughout the presidential campaign, although she has taken some steps to distance herself from her brand since Trump was elected president and her husband, Jared Kushner, accepted an official role in the administration.
