Donald Trump braved a visit to his now-former home of New York City on Saturday night to check out UFC 244 at Madison Square Garden. And New Yorkers, being the willful and opinionated bunch that we are, let Trump have it with a chorus of boos.
It doesn't sound quite as bad or dramatic as the boos Trump recently faced at the Nationals-Astros World Series game. The booing stood out especially clearly in that earlier incident because Trump's sudden appearance at the ball game was bookended on both sides by shout-outs to members of the U.S. military.
There's also the fact that Trump is an established fan of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He's the first U.S. president to sit in the audience for a UFC match, and he attended at the invitation of Dana White, the organization's president and a vocal Trump supporter.
So yes, it's likely there were some Trump stans mixed into the crowd at MSG on Saturday night. But in the wash of crowd noise evident in almost every video, it's clear that the air inside the arena was thick with boos. If you're tired of this president and his chummy relationship with all manner of crimes, these videos are cathartic.

Every president faces public criticism from booing crowds, not just alleged criminals like Trump. It's clear from some of the videos that, more than anything, he faced a mixed response in New York City. That's still pretty bad.

After all, White publicly endorsed Trump at the 2016 Republican National Convention, and he also credits the now-president for helping UFC get off the ground during its early days.
The support clearly wasn't there in the crowd on Saturday night. When the best-case read boils down to "well, they weren't all booing," it's probably better to just take the L and stop attending public events.
