Aggretsuko may best new show on chinese eroticismNetflix that you haven't heard about.
From the creator of Hello Kitty comes Aggretsuko, a new Netflix show about an adorable red panda named Retsuko who works a horrible office job by day and lets out her frustrations at night with some good old fashioned death metal.
Retsuko is 25 years old and loves to remind herself that she's single, a Scorpio, and blood type A. Every day she goes to work as an accountant at a trading firm and constantly has work piling on top of her, all the while building up an internal rage thanks to her sexist, disrespectful boss, her fellow employees, and everyday frustrations like twisting her ankle.
When it's too much to bear, Retsuko will sneak off and belt out some intense and hate-filled death metal songs that she comes up with on the spot, wishing death upon the people who frustrate her most and begrudging her terrible position. And every night, she heads to a karaoke bar and screams death metal songs until she feels better.
The juxtaposition of Retsuko's typically meek personality and her brutal/cathartic death metal sessions is pretty hilarious.
But at it's base, Aggretsukois a pretty honest look at blood-boiling workplace interactions and the kind of sexism that women face in modern work settings. Although it can be pretty over-the-top, the show feels very real in many ways, like when Retsuko just can't seem to say no to a cashier offering her a store card. Internally she's dying, but on the outside she's just politely going along with it.
Retsuko was originally introduced by the Japanese mascot company Sanrio in 2015, but this is the first time the character has received her own series. All 10 episodes of the first season of Aggretsukoare available on Netflix now.
