According to a statement from YouTube, Swift's new song registered 43.2 million views during that opening day of viewing, easily beating out viral sensation Psy who's 2013 video for "Gentleman" had 36 million views during its first 24 hours.
The video averaged around 30,000 views per minute for the day and, according to YouTube, exceeded 3 million views per hour at some point following its debut, a ridonkulous number for a bananas video.
This, of course, is in addition to the lyric video, which was streamed a record 19 million times in its first 24 hours after hitting the web on Friday. And, a day later, the song broke Spotify's same-day streams record with 8 million plays.
