McDonald's Japan has released a 4D "Star Trek" movie in promotion of its newest creation, the Yakki burger.
SEE ALSO: McDonald’s Japan takes burgers so seriously it's holding a full-blown election for themThe Yakki burger is a pork-based burger with ginger and soy-sauce based Japanese sauce.
Since audiences couldn't actually eat the burger during the film, they got the next best thing -- a virtual eating experience, or the fourth dimension in 4D.
This included having water sprayed at their faces to signify the juicy pork patty popping out of the screen, and getting a whiff of its salt, ginger and black pepper seasoning in the cinema.
In the movie, audiences follow Spock, Kirk and Uhura doppelgängers as they "explore" a new planet -- made entirely of the Yakki burger.
The crew travels through crisp pieces of lettuce, a sizzling piece of pork patty and rings of a perfectly cut before finally getting a bite of the burger.
The Star Trekfranchise enjoyed a popular reception in Japan when came out last year.
Even by McDonald's Japan's usual marketing standards, this campaign is pretty out of this world.
